Applying Different Learning Theories to Environment Design

Depending on the purpose and makeup of the community you are designing for, we can identify specific types of learning theories that can provide a framework for our learning communities.

In partnership with Northwestern University's Knight Lab, myself and 3 other designers assessed the current learning strategy for their Open Lab, an informal learning environment where students from the University come to learn and teach each other skills. From this assessment we developed a unique, and instructionally sound case that solved for gaps and improved the curriculum. The goal of our recommended module was to provide an online pathway and resources for essential data storytelling skills that could help provide structure to the student led learning environment.
